Creator-Led Agency Expand Co-Lab Launches, Targeting Brands That Want Direct Access to Talent
Natalie Marshall, the creator behind Corporate Natalie (1.4M Instagram, 827K TikTok, 276K LinkedIn), launched Expand Co-Lab on April 5, a creator-led influencer marketing agency aimed at cutting out the middleman between brands and talent. Marshall says the current agency model is broken because firms create separation between brands and creators, often resulting in brands paying large fees to talent they have never spoken to. The global influencer marketing industry is estimated at $32.55 billion in 2025, a 35% jump over 2024, per Influencer Marketing Hub. Marshall has worked with major tech brands and consumer goods companies and previously appeared in a Dunkin' Donuts campaign alongside Will Arnett. She has three full-time employees and was a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree.
Adweek Names 2026 Brand Genius Creators, Expands List to Include Agencies for First Time
Adweek published its second annual Brand Genius Creators list on April 7, and for the first time added agencies alongside individual talent. Jennifer Quigley-Jones, founder of influencer agency Digital Voices, made the list after PMG acquired the firm in 2025 following breakout campaign work for DoorDash on Amazon's The Summer I Turned Pretty. Other honorees include YouTuber Dhar Mann (26.8M subscribers), who in 2025 inked exclusive content deals with Samsung TV Plus, Fox Entertainment, and Holywater, and TikTok creator Tefi Pessoa (1.9M followers), who has expanded into Vox Media podcasting and a column at The Cut. Emma Grede, co-founder of Skims, was named after launching her podcast Aspire and stepping into content creation.

WGA Strikes Tentative Four-Year Deal With AMPTP, First Union to Close This Cycle
The Writers Guild of America and the AMPTP reached a tentative four-year deal on Saturday April 5, making the WGA the first above-the-line union to close a contract this cycle. The deal includes AI protections and increased streaming residuals, per Deadline sources, in exchange for a longer contract term. The AMPTP also agreed to inject $37 million into the WGA health plan, which had been running at a deficit. SAG-AFTRA talks are expected to resume in June with current contracts expiring June 30, while the DGA is not scheduled to begin bargaining until May. New AMPTP chief Greg Hessinger, a former CBS labor director and ex-SAG CEO, led a more conciliatory approach than his predecessor.
OpenAI Acquires TBPN Talk Show That Was on Pace for $30M in 2026 Revenue
OpenAI acquired TBPN, a daily livestreamed tech talk show hosted by Jordi Hays and John Coogan, that averaged 70,000 viewers per episode and generated $5 million in ad revenue in 2025. The show launched in March 2025 and was on pace to generate more than $30 million in 2026 before the acquisition closed. OpenAI CEO Fidji Simo said the company will protect the show's editorial independence, and TBPN will report to chief global affairs officer Chris Lehane. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, a previous guest, called it his favorite tech show. Law firm Eisner LLP represented TBPN in the deal.

TikTok's North America head of global business solutions Khartoon Weiss is leaving the company on April 9, according to an internal memo shared with Digiday. Weiss, who spent nearly six years at TikTok, told clients in the memo she is pursuing a new opportunity and that the platform would ensure continuity on existing priorities. U.S. country lead Joshua Bloom and Canadian lead Nik Djukic remain in their roles while TikTok conducts a search for her replacement. TikTok did not respond to requests for comment.

More than 10 creators ran companion Watch With streams alongside the main broadcast, making it YouTube's largest Watch With activation in the platform's history. Donaldson said: 'We brought 50 of the biggest streamers on the planet together for some of our most epic challenges yet. The live finale is going to be pure chaos.' The two-day format ran Part 1 on Saturday and a live finale on Sunday.

Bill Ackman Bids $64 Billion for Universal Music Group, Says Bolloré Response Was 'Music to My Ears'
Bill Ackman told investors on April 7 that Pershing Square expects 'overwhelming shareholder support' for its non-binding $64 billion bid to acquire all outstanding shares of Universal Music Group. Ackman said his first call was to the Bolloré Group, which controls 28% of UMG, and received a response he described as 'music to my ears.' Former Hollywood super-agent Michael Ovitz has been proposed as board chairman, and Ackman says he and Ovitz recently dined with UMG CEO Sir Lucian Grainge, who encouraged them to submit the offer.
