X Rolls Out Exclusive Subscriber Threads and Expanded Creator Monetization Tools
X announced creator subscription upgrades this week led by Exclusive Threads, which lets creators paywall content directly in their main feed to drive subscription sign-ups. The update also includes a refreshed benefits display that pops when a user taps Subscribe, a shareable subscriptions card, and subscriber-only content showing in the main profile feed rather than buried in a tab. Eligible creators can now set up subscriptions in two steps with faster review times, and a revamped dashboard consolidates earnings, subscriber insights, and growth tools. Head of product Nikita Bier said on March 6 that long-form posts on X have grown 18x in the last three months. X also ran a $1 million long-form article prize in January as an incentive to drive creator adoption.
Why it matters
Exclusive Threads gives creators on X a direct subscription revenue path at a level of UX integration the platform has not had before, which shifts X from a broadcast platform to a subscription platform for the right type of creator. For reps whose clients have meaningful followings on X, this is worth pricing into brand deal negotiations: a creator with a paid subscriber base commands a different rate than one with a free follower count, because the subscriber relationship is a self-selected high-intent audience. The 18x increase in long-form posts also means X content is traveling further via embeds and shares, adding organic reach value to brand integrations that use the platform as a channel. Watch for Exclusive Threads to create a new class of creator whose primary monetization is direct subscription rather than brand deals, which will shift how the platform itself negotiates with creators.
