X plans a new rewards program for original creator content
Digiday reports that X will launch an Original Content Rewards Program next month for creators who publish original, high-quality work on the platform. Executives at X and xAI told Digiday they view 2026 as the year of the creator and want the payout model to pull more premium content onto X. The program moves beyond the older ad-revenue-share structure that paid creators based on engagement around posts and replies. X has not yet disclosed the full payment formula, which leaves creators and managers waiting on eligibility, proof standards, and payout timing. The announcement arrives as platforms compete for first-window creator programming and direct audience time.
THE BREAKDOWN
Agents should not price X output until the platform defines what counts as original work and which metrics drive payments. If a creator gives X first access to a show, series, or long-form post format, the contract should reserve sponsorship inventory, clip rights, and off-platform distribution windows. Managers should ask for clean payout reporting and avoid promises to brands that depend on a platform formula that can change. Brand teams should test X creator buys against qualified reach, not only public engagement. If X adds bonuses for certain formats, talent can use those rules to package sponsor integrations around the rewarded behavior.
