Spotify Memberships adds tiers and email access with a 10% fee

Source: PodnewsFull story →

Spotify has relaunched its podcast subscription product as Spotify Memberships for eligible shows hosted with Megaphone or Spotify for Creators. Podnews reports that Spotify charges a 10% fee for the service. The update adds membership tiers, comment badges and a clearer in-app subscription process. Creators can also download member email addresses. Spotify first introduced podcast subscriptions in 2021, so this is an update to an existing paid-listening product rather than a new revenue category.

THE BREAKDOWN

Model the 10% fee against the show's existing membership service before asking fans to move. Check which benefits each tier includes and how members will receive them outside Spotify. Review consent and data-export terms before importing member emails into a newsletter. Keep paid-member inventory separate from sponsor promises, especially if the offer includes ad-free episodes. A host should know which party handles refunds before promoting a recurring subscription.
