Snapback Sports lands Sam Houston State football jersey patch after building a college sports media brand
Front Office Sports reports that Sam Houston State agreed to a one-year, football-only jersey patch partnership with Snapback Sports. The deal makes Sam Houston the second Conference USA school to sign a jersey patch sponsor since the NCAA approved commercial patches on Division I uniforms in January. Snapback produces sports content including Snapback Saturdays, a college football road trip and stadium tour series. The company has nearly 2 million followers across social platforms and grew from a Snapchat account started by Jack Settleman in 2017. The agreement places Snapback's hat icon on a two-by-two-inch patch on Bearkats football uniforms, and the company is also adding former NFL running back Melvin Gordon to its Snapback Saturdays crew.
THE BREAKDOWN
A media company buying a jersey patch turns sponsorship into content production. Creators with sports audiences can now pitch themselves as distribution partners for schools, not only campaign talent. Agents should explore deals where a creator brand gets signage, access, episodes, and athlete appearances in one package. Schools should be careful to define player participation, NIL clearance, clip rights, and sponsor conflicts before handing creators sideline access. This deal also shows that smaller programs can use creator-led sponsors to get national attention without waiting for a Fortune 500 buyer.
