Influence closes its $600M-plus Anthem acquisition

Source: Music Business WorldwideFull story →

Influence Media Partners completed its acquisition of substantially all of Anthem Entertainment’s assets in a transaction valued at more than $600 million. The company worked with funds and accounts managed by BlackRock on the deal. The purchase covers music publishing catalogs, film and television publishing assets, and master recordings. Influence says it adds stakes in more than 24,000 released songs and 60,000 additional unexploited works. The November 5 announcement confirms completion of a transaction first announced on July 29.

THE BREAKDOWN

Managers with clients in these catalogs should confirm who now handles approvals and royalty statements. Ask the administrator whether payment instructions or outstanding sync requests need to change. Buyers acquired stakes, so verify the ownership share and approval chain for each song before promising a brand clearance. Do not use the headline transaction value to price a client's catalog without comparable rights, earnings and deal terms.
