EA brings school sponsors into College Football
Arkansas and SMU have become the first schools to bring their jersey and field sponsorships into EA Sports College Football, Sports Business Journal reported. Players can see Arkansas's Tyson Foods jersey patch and the Tyson and Walmart field logos. SMU's Texas Capital jersey patch also appears in the game. Learfield's collegiate licensing division CLC leads the program and manages participating schools' intellectual property rights through its EA Sports license. SBJ reported that organizers expect additional schools to join, but it did not disclose sponsorship fees.
THE BREAKDOWN
Ask a school's sponsorship seller whether a proposed package includes video-game placement and who controls those rights. Put the game title and the length of the placement in writing instead of accepting a generic digital-rights clause. For athlete representatives, confirm whether a separate NIL agreement covers the talent's participation before promising appearances in creator-led gameplay promotions. Brand managers should request placement verification after game updates and negotiate a remedy if the publisher removes an asset. Price livestream talent and paid amplification separately from the school sponsorship rather than assuming the integration includes either.
