Podnews finds 1,778 podcast copies on Spreaker

Source: PodnewsFull story →

Podnews says it identified 1,778 podcasts copied onto Spreaker through an analysis of Podcast Index data dated October 24. Its October 27 investigation found copies of shows from publishers such as PodcastOne, Vox Media and Goalhanger. Podnews also tested the import process and says Spreaker approved monetization of its test copy without a feed-ownership check. Spreaker told Podnews it does not condone unauthorized uploads, takes action against violations, and honors the podcast:locked tag. Podnews says copied feeds can divert listeners and advertising revenue from the original publishers.

THE BREAKDOWN

Search the major podcast directories for duplicate listings of every represented show and retain the URLs for takedown requests. Ask the hosting provider whether it supports feed-lock controls and ownership verification for transfers. Keep account access under the creator's control rather than leave it with a departed producer. In ad agreements, identify the official feed and make clear that unauthorized copies are outside the creator's inventory and brand-safety obligations.
