OpenAI Acquires TBPN Talk Show That Was on Pace for $30M in 2026 Revenue
OpenAI acquired TBPN, a daily livestreamed tech talk show hosted by Jordi Hays and John Coogan, that averaged 70,000 viewers per episode and generated $5 million in ad revenue in 2025. The show launched in March 2025 and was on pace to generate more than $30 million in 2026 before the acquisition closed. OpenAI CEO Fidji Simo said the company will protect the show's editorial independence, and TBPN will report to chief global affairs officer Chris Lehane. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, a previous guest, called it his favorite tech show. Law firm Eisner LLP represented TBPN in the deal.
THE BREAKDOWN
Tech companies buying owned media properties at eight-figure implied valuations creates a new class of brand partnership and editorial deal that does not fit neatly into existing agency models. For talent agents with clients in tech and finance media, this acquisition shows that a bootstrapped daily talk show can be a viable exit path and not just a brand-building exercise. It also sets a precedent that AI companies may start competing directly with ad-supported creator media, which reshapes the sponsorship market for shows covering business and technology. Managers of business-focused creators should now factor in acquisition interest, not just brand deals, when advising clients on ownership and exclusivity terms.
