Disney and TikTok create a new bridge between fan videos and Disney+
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Disney and TikTok signed a content-sharing deal that will bring selected TikTok videos to Disney+. Creators who opt in will get access to Disney photo and video assets tied to characters and IP. A curated selection of videos will live on TikTok and in Verts, Disney+'s vertical video area. The partnership will launch in the U.S. in the next couple of months, with plans to expand to other markets. Disney also said selected creators can receive special rewards, higher visibility, exclusive-event access, and career development pathways.
THE BREAKDOWN
Fan creators should not use studio assets without clear rights, even when a platform deal makes the content feel blessed. Agents should ask who owns the edited video, where Disney can reuse it, how long the rights last, and whether the creator can still work with competing studios. Brands and studios should budget for creator licensing when fan labor becomes streaming inventory. If a creator gets event access or visibility instead of cash, the contract should state exactly what they receive and what usage the company gets in return. This kind of program can build careers, but vague IP language can give away too much.
