Disney and Epic Games connect a Star Wars theme park ride to a new Fortnite adventure

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Disney and Epic Games launched Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite. Visitors in Orlando or Anaheim can accept a special mission while waiting for the Smugglers Run attraction, then earn a Forsworn Trooper Outfit inside a new Fortnite adventure called Smugglers Gambit. Disney Games and Digital Entertainment executive Sean Shoptaw said it is the first time the attraction has reached beyond its physical walls into a connected game world. The game was built in-house and is tied to the same Star Wars universe as the ride. The project deepens Disney's push to make parks, games, and streaming-era fandom work as one connected consumer loop.

THE BREAKDOWN

This is the clearest current example of location-based fandom becoming digital inventory. Talent tied to major IP should ask whether appearances, voice, likeness, or social promotion can extend into game worlds and park activations. Brand managers should price gaming integrations differently when they drive real-world attendance, in-game rewards, and social sharing at once. Agents should push usage language that separates park media, game assets, avatars, skins, and promotional clips. If Disney proves this works, more studios will ask talent to support cross-platform fan journeys inside one contract.
