Aéropostale treats a creator collection like a six-episode teen show
Digiday reports that Aéropostale released the six-episode second season of The Intern Diaries across YouTube and TikTok. The docu-series-style show starred TikTok creator Déjà Clark and promoted a clothing collection collaboration between Clark and the brand. Marisa Thalberg, executive vice president and chief customer and marketing officer at Catalyst Brands, said the new season had a stronger entertainment lens, a real director, and a graphic title sequence. YouTube delivered the strongest retention, TikTok posted the highest engagement, and Instagram engagement on Intern Diaries content was twice the brand's regular content. The Deja collection pushed the Aéropostale app into roughly the top 30 to 40 apps during a two-day app-exclusive sales window, and Thalberg described the production cost as low six figures.
THE BREAKDOWN
Creator collections now need entertainment budgets, not just campaign budgets. Agents should price episodic participation, collection promotion, app-exclusive windows, paid media, usage, and production days as separate line items. If a brand measures retention on YouTube and engagement on TikTok, the deal should not pay one flat social rate across every platform. Retailers should include sales bonuses when a show is built to move product during back-to-school or holiday windows. Creators should also keep approval rights over storylines because a brand-produced series can shape the audience's view of the talent.
